Originally, the title of this post read, “Arctic Zero Shocks and Awes,” but that was too much of a no-brainer. So I kept it real. Arctic Zero’s new chunky pints are nothing shy of super-duper special, and I need to brag about my super awesome life for a minute, because I tried (AKA finished three pints of) Peanut Butter Swirl, Cherry Chocolate Chunk and Rocky Road Trip, and now I get to write about it. Then there were the Cake Batter Bars.
Here’s the truth about “ice cream.” I’m obsessed. But I’m also in-the-know, which means I’m super familiar with how awful the real stuff is for you. And most of the time, the fake stuff is either fake (ingredients-wise) or fake-tasting, as in awful, as in no thanks. Arctic Zero surprised me back in 2000-something-or-another when I sampled their Vanilla Maple by freak accident and later fell in love with the stuff. I remember, being a recent college grad, my desperation to find a job like immediately so I could live off of Arctic Zero and DirecTV, and afford to buy treats for the “good lookin’ lady,” as my husband calls our German Shepherd ball (er clump) o’ fur. But here’s the wild thing. As good as I remember that first bite of Vanilla Maple tasting, Arctic Z has only upped the ante. Here’s the cold, hard truth (ha-ha, ice cream pun):
Introducing Cherry Chocolate Chunk With some chocolate sprinkled on top. I’m not even a cherry fan, but wow. This reminds me of my mom. She would always get sweet cream ice cream with tons of cherry chunks! It also reminds me of Cold Stone Creamery. When you’re enjoying it, you’re not thinking about the fact that Arctic Zero is saving you serious time in the gym, but it is! Now, here’s the other scoop (ha-ha, another ice cream pun): Rocky Road Trip Rocky Road Trip, you complete me. This was an instant favorite for me. I love toasted almonds, I love marshmallows, and I love chocolate, so this pint was a no brainer. I think what surprised me was how intense the chocolate flavor was. Sometimes over time, ice cream can lose its flavor, but it stood the test of time. And finally, drumroll please . . . (I ran out of ice cream puns): Peanut Butter Swirl. I am not lying when I say that Peanut Butter Swirl was the biggest surprise of the night (yes, I ate a little of each in one night – sue me), because the peanut butter was SO DELICIOUS! And the white chocolate (I assume) chips made all the difference. This may have been my favorite of the bunch! It’s hard to choose, but if you love peanut butter, do not pass up this opportunity. Do not. All in all, Arctic Zero’s chunky pints are a dream come true and are changing the way we healthy folk view dessert. Many a’thanks, Arctic Z. And to ye non-familiar peeps, check out my initial post on why I Arctic Z and why you should too.
PS Don’t forget to try the Cake Batter Bars. They’ll melt your face off.
